🖖 Event context

This ancient feast in Malta and Gozo commemorates Saints Peter and Paul, with the name "luminarja" derived from "Luminare," meaning to light up. Traditionally, bonfires and candles symbolize joy during this celebration. While it has evolved from the traditional village festa style, it's now celebrated with unique merriment in Buskett Garden on June 29. Liturgical services occur in Mdina Cathedral, followed by horse and donkey races in the afternoon nearby. Nadur, Gozo also observes this feast in the typical festive manner seen in towns and villages.

👀 Overview

As a designer, it's rare to have the opportunity to craft an identity for a national public holiday. So, when Ponder and Pitch approached me about this project, I eagerly accepted. The challenge lay in navigating pandemic restrictions, which shifted most events online.

Given the unique circumstances, our goal was to rejuvenate interest in the event, traditionally attended by older audiences, by appealing to new demographics on an online platform.

The onsite celebration is a vibrant tapestry of colour, bustling crowds, and seasonal abundance. Hence, we opted for a bold departure from convention in our branding approach. Our innovative identity was well-received and continues to be used today, now that the event has returned to its onsite format, alongside additional online events.
